What a $600K apt looks like in Shenzhen,China? (Brutal Reality: Shared Area & 70-Yr Ownership)

Hi, I'm Liao. I'm 36 and I live in Shenzhen – a first-tier megacity in southern China. Our home isn't in the city center – it's in the suburbs, surrounded by factories. It gets really noisy at night – trucks, machinery, you name it. Thousands of workers live here in dormitories, earning around 760–1,100 a month, mostly from overtime. We bought this apartment two years ago for $600,000. But the actual usable space is only 549 sq ft – because in China, the listed size includes shared hallways and elevators. We paid in full before the building was even finished. Since then, the price has dropped by nearly a third. Our down payment was $300,000. Our parents helped with about half of that – super common for young couples here. 70-year property rights, school district housing pressure, deed taxes… you might have heard about these.
