After obtaining his PhD from the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, University of Tokyo, and serving as a visiting researcher at Hebrew University and New York University, he is currently an associate professor at the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, University of Tokyo, where he is engaged in research and education. His specialties are Russian and Eastern European Jewish history, Zionism, and Israel and Palestine. His research achievements have been highly praised, and he has received the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science Prize and the Japan Academy Prize for Academic Encouragement. Her representative works include *The Imagination of Russian Zionism*, which deciphers the ideological background of Zionism; *The Origin of Israel*, which deals with the establishment of the State of Israel; and *The History of the Jewish People*, which broadly depicts the history of the Jewish people.
