2% That’s what the doctor said. For days, life felt fragile, as if everything around me was balancing on the edge of silence. But eventually, the reports came back different, Vascular Malformation. Not the ending I feared. Maybe a second chance. Maybe life quietly telling me, “You still have time.” So I decided to take my first international trip. Not alone, but with my Sakhi my closest friend. The funny part? I didn’t choose the destination. My phone’s algorithm did. One random scroll after another, and suddenly Vietnam kept appearing everywhere, like the universe had already made the decision for me. And before I knew it, we were flying from Delhi to Ho Chi Minh City, stepping into a country that felt both unfamiliar and strangely welcoming. Our first day was messy, exciting, and real. We wandered through local markets in search of vegetarian food, getting lost in the chaos of District 1, only to finally surrender to comfort and end up at an Indian restaurant in the middle of Saigon’s buzzing streets. But the city slowly revealed itself beyond the traffic and neon lights. We learned that Ho Chi Minh City was once called Saigon, a name that still lingers in the hearts of its people. From the timeless beauty of the Saigon Central Post Office to the madness of Bui Vien Street’s nightlife, the city felt alive in every possible way. The next morning, Vietnam began telling us its deeper stories. On the road to the legendary Cu Chi Tunnels, we discovered delicate art made from eggshells fragile pieces carrying the weight of culture and survival. Inside the tunnels, history no longer felt distant. The Vietnam War stopped being a chapter from a book and became something human, something haunting. Later, standing inside the Independence Palace, we finally understood why Saigon became Ho Chi Minh City, and how one city can carry the scars of war and rebirth at the same time. From the top of Landmark 81, Vietnam stretched endlessly below us, a city of movement, memory, and resilience. But Vietnam wasn’t done surprising us yet. Before flying to Phu Quoc, I searched for something simple, a diary from Nguyen Van Binh Book Street, hoping to capture the thoughts this journey was slowly awakening inside me. Then came Sunset Town, water rides at Sun World, laughter echoing through unfamiliar streets, and the magical spectacle of the Kiss of the Sea show under the night sky. And then, suddenly, silence. My phone died after a water activity. No maps. No algorithm. No recommendations. For the first time in years, I was completely disconnected from the digital world that had brought me here in the first place. And strangely, that’s when the real journey began. Without notifications or endless scrolling, we found ourselves standing on the untouched shores of Starfish Beach, watching the sea breathe in shades of blue I didn’t know existed. No plans. No algorithm. Just two travelers, a quiet beach, and a feeling that maybe life is most beautiful when you stop trying to control where it takes you. Xin Chào Vietnam is not just a travel documentary. It is a story about second chances, friendship, history, chaos, healing, and the strange ways life guides us exactly where we need to be. . Narrated, Filmed & Presented by @SouvenirStoryteller .
