Test de Adams, como detectar la escoliosis
How to diagnose scoliosis using the Adams test Physiotherapy within your reach Hello friends, today we'll learn a series of tests that will help us detect the presence of scoliosis. This problem primarily affects children during their growing years, so knowing how to detect it early will help us avoid significant consequences for our children's growth and health. If you'd like more information about scoliosis, you can click on the image that appears on the screen. The first thing is to perform a brief visual examination. We undress the patient from the waist up and observe their back and any asymmetries. We have developed a series of questions that will help you analyze the most important points: Is the head centered over the vertical line between the buttocks? Is one shoulder higher than the other? Does one shoulder bulge or is it higher than the other? Is there a greater distance between the forearm and the waist on one side than on the other? Is the child's waist more pronounced on one side than the other? Does the child appear to lean or tilt to one side? If we answer yes to three or more questions, we must perform the Adams test, which will determine the presence of scoliosis. We stand behind the patient again, ask them to place their palms together with their arms stretched out, and to lean very slowly forward, bending their entire spine, letting their arms hang as if trying to touch the floor without bending their knees. Is there any prominence, asymmetry, or lump at the ribs? If you answered yes to the last question, these physical characteristics suggest that your child or patient may have scoliosis. It is important to note the side where the lump or prominence is located for treatment, as it corresponds to the convex side of the scoliosis. All our exercises are performed based on the location of the convexity, hence their importance. In these cases, it's best to consult a professional so they can determine the type and severity of scoliosis and then prescribe a treatment plan. We have developed two videos to help with scoliosis treatment through exercises. You should know the type of scoliosis you have, whether it's C or S, to choose the appropriate protocol for your case. You can access the videos by clicking on the image on the screen. I hope these tools help you detect the early presence of scoliosis, thus avoiding the consequences it causes with growth.
