Licks Learning Path #1 - from little barres, mighty licks grow
Most videos on learning lead guitar tend to focus on scales and techniques, but not as many help you learn how to build a vocabulary of the most basic and useful licks. "Licks Learning Path" is a series of videos in a suggested learning path that includes many of the most common types of licks you hear in classic rock/metal. The licks are grouped into several high-level categories. I'll be coming out with a video for each category. This video is for the first category, the simple two-string barre on the top two strings. It's the foundation for many licks, and a basic muscle move. I'll look at six common variations that use hammer-ons, slides, and double-stops to add notes and color to this basic barre. Each variation will have short examples from actual songs, many filmed up close, from the player viewpoint. Examples include: Queen - Crazy Little Thing Called Love Saturday Night's Alright - Elton John Rolling Stones - Under My Thumb AC/DC - High Voltage Beatles - All My Lovin' Eagles - Take It Easy Jimi Hendrix - The Wind Cries Mary Grateful Dead - Casey Jones Stevie Ray Vaughan - Love Struck Baby and more. If you haven't already seen it, check out the introduction to this series which gives a high-level overview of the learning path, and samples of the licks I'll be covering: • "Licks Learning Path" - a simple way to ge...
