First Day of Service at the LIRR Yaphank-BNL Station

After almost two centuries of serving Yaphank, the Long Island Railroad recently relocated the Yaphank station to better serve a recently opened industrial park (including an Amazon warehouse), as well as the adjacent Brookhaven National Laboratories, hence the new name of this station: Yaphank BNL. As luck would have it, I happened to be free on the day that this station was scheduled to open for revenue service (today, July 18th), as the station's opening was initially scheduled for May 15th, but was pushed back due to the LIRR strike. Naturally, as a lifetime LIRR commuter and railfan, I decided to visit the recently opened station on its first day of regularly scheduled passenger service to catch a Greenport Scoot stopping, even if it wasn't the first revenue train of the day or the ribbon cutting ceremony. I did pack my higher quality Sony point and shoot DLSR, but to my horror, I realized that both of my batteries were exhausted, one of which seemed to be drained more than when I last used the camera. So regrettably, I decided to get the footage from my cell phone camera at the very last second, all while in the middle of a severe thunderstorm. At least it allows me to upload the footage faster, even if the video quality is a bit lower, and it's still capturing this historic day in LIRR and local Long Island history.
