We Went to Overland Expo… Then the Wildfire Started

We headed to Redmond, Oregon for Overland Expo PNW, met up with friends, and enjoyed a few incredible days camping before the event. Everything was going exactly as planned... until it wasn't. Just after setting up camp for what we thought would be a relaxing few days in the woods, law enforcement arrived with an unexpected warning. A nearby wildfire had changed everything, and we were told this could be our last chance to leave safely. As we packed up, we witnessed something I'll never forget: a medical helicopter landing to transport an injured smokejumper. With one road blocked by the wildfire and the other temporarily closed for the helicopter, we waited as emergency crews loaded the injured firefighter before the helicopter lifted off. This weekend started with friends, campfires, and Overland Expo... and ended in a way none of us expected.
