Preseason 2026 Training

The 2026 season with the Queensland Racing Pigeon Federation kicks off May 23rd from Millmerran (180km), finishing in early October at Noccundra (1040km) and Thargomindah (920km)—a long season ahead. This year, we’ll again have separate club releases for the first five races. With around 90km between the northern and southern lofts, it’s a wide front, and the aim is to help the birds hold a more direct line home. My team has now completed 7 tosses out to 60km, and they’re coming along well. One tough toss stretched them out, but overall, I’m confident they’ll be ready for the first race. For the 6th toss (37km), I trained with a couple of mates to give the birds a chance to break from the mob. It was a clear, calm morning—birds up at 7:50am, and one old hen led the way home in 28 minutes. She hesitated at the loft, possibly due to a new camera at the entrance, with a few others also shying away from it. All birds returned well, so a solid toss, and we’re getting close now.
