EP39 Mary Kathleen, the abandoned ghost town.

Rolling west out of Julia Creek, we hit that classic Queensland wide‑open nothingness — red dirt, road trains, and the kind of horizon that makes you feel small in the best way. From there, the Blue Ute pushes on to Cloncurry, the old copper town with big skies and bigger history. We swing off the highway into the ghostly remains of Mary Kathleen Mine, wandering through abandoned streets, crumbling foundations, and the eerie quiet of a town that once boomed. It’s a slice of outback time travel — rugged, raw, and absolutely unforgettable. Then it’s southbound, chasing dust and sunsets across the Mitchell Grass Plains as we make our way toward Winton — dinosaur country, Waltzing Matilda country, and one of the most iconic outback towns in Australia. If you love remote roads, forgotten places, and proper Queensland outback scenery, this leg of the trip is a beauty. Welcome to Blue Ute Getaways We are Kylie & Russell & we've decided it's time to start living our life on our terms whilst we still have our health as the saying goes life is too short. We are not doing the traditional "Big lap of Australia" but will be living in our 18'6" Eternity Monument caravan being towed by our Blue Mitsubishi Triton GLX+, with no official end date, seeing as much of this great land as possible, there will be highs & lows, laughter & probably a few arguments along the way as we explore together, so please consider subscribing & come along for the ride, we would love to share our experiences with you. 🙌 HOW YOU CAN SUPPORT US (FREE) ✅ LIKE the video ✅ COMMENT (we reply!) ✅ SUBSCRIBE to the channel ✅ SHARE with your mates who love travel & caravanning Join our socials:👇 Instagram:   / blueutegetaways   Facebook:   / blue.ute.getaways   YouTube:    / @blueutegetaways   #caravanning #caravanningaustralia #rvlife #fulltimetravel #blueutegetaways #caravancouple #caravanlife
