EP10 - Queensland Longest Rail Tunnel! Nobby, Crows Nest to Cooyar QLD
Finally we took our caravan to the weighbridge! After hearing so many horror stories, we were more than a little nervous. Were we within the legal limits... or had we packed far too much for life on the road? History comes alive again in Crows Nest, where we learn about the hardworking bullock teams that hauled massive timber loads from Cooyar to Toowoomba. As we continue our journey north through Queensland, we uncover some incredible hidden gems that many travellers drive straight past. We step back in time at the fascinating Muntapa Tunnel, discovering the remarkable story behind its construction in 1913 and why does it smell? Next, we explore the spectacular Coomba Falls, just outside Maidenwell. Surrounded by towering granite boulders and peaceful bushland, the falls cascade into crystal-clear rock pools that have been carved out over thousands of years. We scramble across the huge granite rocks, taking in the incredible scenery and discovering why this picturesque spot is a favourite with locals for swimming, picnics and relaxing in nature. Our adventure then takes us to The Palms National Park, home to one of Queensland's most unique pockets of subtropical rainforest. Walking beneath towering Piccabeen Palms, giant strangler figs and ancient vines, it's hard to believe this lush oasis exists in an otherwise dry landscape. We also stand in awe beneath a magnificent 300-year-old Moreton Bay Fig, whose enormous trunk and sprawling roots are a reminder of just how long this remarkable forest has survived. From surprising weighbridge results and beautiful waterfalls to ancient rainforest, hidden history and giant centuries-old trees, this episode is packed with adventure, laughs and a few lessons along the way. 🔔 SUBSCRIBE 👉🏼 / @trackingacrossoz 📍 Follow for more of our travels here: Facebook: facebook.com/TrackingAcrossOz Instagram: instagram.com/trackingacross We would LOVE TO HEAR your favourite part this episode and please don't forget to support us by LIKING and SUBSCRIBING if you want to see more us while we are Tracking Across Oz.
