Is this AUSTRALIA’S BIGGEST GHOST TOWN? | Mt Isa Underground Mine Tour | Mary Kathleen - Ep 51

On this weeks episode we travel to the former township of Mary Kathleen and set up a base to explore supposedly Australia’s biggest Ghost Town. Mary Kathleen was once a uranium mine operated by Rio Tinto here in Queensland, today it is a private property that is open to the public for camping amongst the beautiful trees and mountains that surround you. We explore the former township and mine site before day tripping into Mount Isa and going on the Hard Times Mine Tour. The Hard Times mine was built for the tourist industry to give people an idea of what life underground is all about. The mine is named after John Campbell Miles’s horse “HARD TIMES”. John discovered the lead deposit at Mount Isa which has been in mined for over 100 years. The zinc-lead vein at Mount Isa is the richest known in the world.
