#lamecedora #ignaciosarmiento #spanishlegions The Spanish Legion was created by Royal Decree on January 28, 1920: "Under the name of the Tercio de Extranjeros, an armed military unit shall be created, whose personnel, salaries, and regulations shall be determined by the Ministry of War." On September 2 of that same year, command of the Tercio de Extranjeros was granted to Lieutenant Colonel Millán Astray, who designated the Rey Barracks in Ceuta for the installation of the Tercio's Command Offices. On September 20, the first Legionary Knight enlisted, and this date has been celebrated ever since, at the express wish of the Founder, as the date of the creation of the Legion. Its first captain was Mr. Pablo Arredondo Acuña, who became one of the few soldiers with two Laureate Crosses of San Fernando.
