This Cozy Fishing Game Is Hiding A Dark Secret... | About Fishing Demo (No Commentary Gameplay)

This game... this game really caught me off guard (all the puns fully intended). Going in, I expected a simple, straightforward simulator based entirely on the title. Instead, I ended up finding an absolute gem of a game that is atmospheric, intriguing, and deeply mysterious. I won't spoil the secrets here in case you want to experience them yourself, which I highly recommend doing before or after watching this video! The game masterfully walks a tightrope between genuinely eerie, quiet mystery, and relaxing coziness. I am so incredibly glad I gave it a chance, and here are my qualitative thoughts on the demo: The Fishing Mechanics: The fishing loop is an absolute delight. It’s relaxing, satisfying, and it’s genuinely fun trying to guide your hook into hard-to-reach pockets of water. While I thought the casting mechanics might feel a bit awkward at first, they gave me zero trouble. Any minor casting mishaps I had felt like pure user error rather than a fault of the game. The Fish Controls: If I have one main critique, moving around underwater from the perspective of the fish was somewhat annoying. The camera can get a bit disorienting, and the fish didn't always respond precisely to inputs. I'm not sure if this was a deliberate design choice by the developers to make the fish feel like it has its own stubborn mind, but it felt somewhat clunky at times. It definitely wasn't frustrating enough to make me stop playing, but it's worth noting. The Animations: As a minor nitpick that most players probably won't even mind, the main character's walking animation looks a bit stiff and unnatural. It was just a small detail I caught here and there, but it didn't pull me away from the incredible atmosphere. I was far too focused on the overarching mystery and the fishing itself! Overall Verdict: I absolutely love the creative direction of About Fishing. The demo is an exceptional proof of concept, and I have eagerly added the full game to my Steam wishlist. While there is no exact release date locked down just yet, the Steam page is targeting a 2026 launch window, and I can't wait to see how the final product turns out!
