This Anime Indie Driving Game Has SO Much Potential | Kaido Genkai Impressions (no commentary)

Kaido Genkai has an incredibly cool art style that leans heavily into vivid anime and classic Speed Racer vibes. The city environments in this initial playable area are beautiful and highly atmospheric. There are even hidden routes, like a cave system, that look ripe for deeper exploration. While the demo has an excellent foundation, here are a few qualitative thoughts on the experience: Presentation & Atmosphere: The visual world is stunning, but adding voice-overs and giving the characters in the text bubbles more subtle movement would elevate the storytelling. Anime is legendary for cultivating personality through little, nuanced moments; moving away from static images would help sell that personal connection to the world and the characters' cause. Sound Design: The current collision sound effects lack punch, occasionally sounding a bit like a plastic toy car, and the gear-shifting sound feels more like a rattle than a roaring engine. In a driving game, every rev and every impact needs to sound satisfying to truly ground you in the experience. Physics & Impact: The drifting mechanics already feel quite good, and the vehicles feel decently weighted. However, collisions would benefit from feeling much more impactful, ideally paired with visible collision damage so players really "feel" the hit when making contact with the environment or other cars. Performance: There were a few noticeable frame drops as the vehicle picked up top speed, which is worth noting for a game centered around fast-paced driving. Overall Verdict: This demo has a ton of potential and a fantastic, distinct identity. It isn’t trying to just copy a game like Forza Horizon, but it could certainly take a page from that playbook when it comes to utilizing stellar sound design to completely sell the high-speed experience. It’s absolutely a title worth keeping on your radar! #KaidoGenkai #IndieGames #Afterdarkpresents #NoCommentary #GamingCommunity #AnimeGaming #SpeedRacerVibes #IndieGameDev #GameDemo #RacingGames #DrivingGames #NewIndieGames
