The Monte Generoso Railway is one of Switzerland’s most spectacular mountain railways and is absolutely worth visiting for anyone traveling in the Ticino region. Climbing high above Lake Lugano, the line offers breathtaking panoramic views stretching across southern Switzerland and northern Italy. Experience the full journey on the historic Monte Generoso Railway, filmed from the train’s front window in real time and without commentary. Departing from Capolago on the Gotthard Railway main line, this narrow-gauge cogwheel railway ascends steeply through forests and mountain landscapes to the summit of Monte Generoso at 1,704 meters above sea level. Opened in 1890, the railway uses the Abt rack system and is today operated by the Migros cooperative group.
