I Spent 48 Hours in 1861 (The 165th Battle of Philippi)

In June of 1861, a torrential mountain monsoon and a single, accidental civilian pistol shot collided to ignite the first official land action of the American Civil War: The Battle of Philippi. What followed was a total masterclass in military friction, where two armies made entirely of raw, green volunteers who had absolutely no idea what they were doing clashed in the pitch-black darkness of an Appalachian storm. To mark the 165th anniversary of this chaotic opening clash, we aren't just analyzing maps from the comfort of a dry studio. We are putting on the wool, stepping into character, and taking the field in a massive, live-action reenactment to show you exactly what it felt like to be trapped in the valley when the ridges exploded with artillery fire. If you love immersive, on-the-ground history that brings the past to life, make sure to SMASH that like button, hit Subscribe, and drop a comment below letting us know which historic battlefield we should march onto next! Keep history alive, and we’ll see you on the next frontline! ⚒️🇺🇸 #CivilWar #AmericanHistory #BattleOfPhilippi #LivingHistory #MilitaryTactics #165thAnniversary #HistoryBuff #Reenactment #appalachianculture #appalachianhistory #appalachia #history #untoldhistory #westvirginia #circlesevenranch #appalachianmountains #minivlog #minidocumentary ‪@gunsfromthepast‬
