Crossing Badgoi Pass in a Snowstorm | Solo Ride from Kalam to Kumrat (2026) EP.06
On the morning of May 12, 2026, I woke up at Hotel Heaven Valley in Utror after a peaceful night's sleep following the exhausting journey to Janshai. After packing my luggage on the bike and saying goodbye to the hotel owner, I headed to Utror Bazaar for breakfast. Honestly, the breakfast was disappointing. The cook didn't know how to properly fry an egg or make an omelet, so I somehow managed with a single roti just to fill my empty stomach. Before leaving, I asked several locals and jeep drivers about the condition of Badgoi Pass. Most of them said the road was closed and only 4x4 vehicles could cross it. A few believed that a motorcycle could make it through. After asking five or six different people, four told me not to go while two encouraged me to try. I decided to move forward with the mindset that if I couldn't make it, I would simply turn back. It would cost me an extra day of travel, but I could still reach Chitral through Kalam, Madyan, and Mingora. The only downside would be missing my planned visit to Kumrat Valley. The real challenge began as soon as I left Utror and entered the road towards Badgoi Pass. My motorcycle was heavily loaded, making the rough track even more difficult. The distance from Utror to Kumrat was around 50 kilometers, while Thal Bazaar was approximately 40 kilometers away. After riding only a few kilometers, I started doubting whether this journey was even possible. Deep inside, I kept praying that a jeep would appear so I could send my extra luggage ahead. Just a few minutes later, I heard a horn behind me. As the vehicle approached, I saw a jeep carrying a group of friends traveling from Kalam to Kumrat for a cricket match. I had never met them before, but when I requested them to take my extra luggage, they didn't hesitate for a second. They loaded everything onto their jeep and continued on their way. The equipment I handed over was worth nearly 600,000 PKR, yet I trusted them in the name of Allah and continued my journey. Around 4 kilometers before reaching Badgoi Top, rain started falling. I quickly put on my rain suit, but the rain soon turned into hail and eventually a full snowstorm. The continuous snowfall slowed my progress dramatically. As I approached Dasht-e-Laila, the entire landscape transformed into a world of white mountains. The final 2-kilometer section before the top was one of the toughest tracks I have ever ridden. The road was covered with mud, slush, and snow, making every meter a challenge. By this point, the jeep carrying my luggage was far ahead, and I was completely alone on the track. Riding through such harsh weather on such a dangerous road was anything but easy. This is not a route for the faint-hearted. It demands courage, patience, and determination. Finally, I reached Badgoi Top and thanked Allah for helping me make it through. After spending some time enjoying the breathtaking scenery, I began the equally dangerous descent toward Kumrat Valley. The adventure continued until I reached Lamoti. However, the day was far from over. That night, I planned to camp deep inside the dense forests of Kumrat Valley. What happened next and the incredible camping experience await you in the next episode. #BadgoiPass #KumratValley #SoloRide #Snowstorm #TravelWithNabeel --- Subscribe to Travel with Nabeel to explore more hidden gems across Pakistan.
