Birmoghlasht – Mini Deosai & Evergreen Paradise In Chitral Gol | EP:12
After spending the previous night in a hotel on the main road in Chitral City, I woke up early, excited for another adventure. The city was just beginning to wake up—shops were opening, the streets were quiet, and the fresh mountain air made the morning feel incredibly peaceful. There's something truly special about mornings in a city surrounded by towering mountains. After loading all my luggage onto the bike, I headed to a nearby café called Foodland, hoping to have breakfast before starting the ride. Unfortunately, I found out they don't serve breakfast and only open after 10 AM. Instead of waiting, I decided to begin the journey on an empty stomach and eat after returning. I asked a local for directions to Chitral Gol National Park and soon left the busy streets of Chitral behind. As the road climbed higher into the mountains, the scenery became more breathtaking with every turn. Many people don't know that before Chitral became part of Pakistan, this area wasn't a national park. Today, it is one of the country's most beautiful protected areas. The famous Birmoghlasht Summer Fort of the Mehtar (ruler) of Chitral is located here. During the summer season, the ruler used this place as his royal residence because of its cool weather and spectacular views. After entering Chitral Gol National Park, I was amazed by the vast forests of Chilgoza (pine nut) trees covering the mountains. Reaching the historic fort, I learned that until 1969, many important decisions affecting the people of Chitral were made from this very place. Standing there, it was easy to understand why the rulers chose this location. From the top, you can enjoy a panoramic view of Chitral City stretching all the way to Seen Lasht, while on the other side you can see the Broz area. Behind the mountains lie the Kalash valleys, leading towards the Afghan border. Further uphill, there are two famous places known as Junali. In the Khowar language, "Junali" refers to a polo ground. Even higher stands a historic tree called Chaghbeeni Rogh, where "Rogh" means tree and "Chaghbeeni" means shade-giving in the local language. Learning the meanings behind these names made the journey even more fascinating. I spent quite some time exploring and enjoying the peaceful atmosphere. If you're planning to visit Chitral and want the best camping location with incredible views, pleasant weather, and complete peace, I would highly recommend Birmoghlasht. It instantly became one of my favorite places in Chitral. Later, I continued further uphill to the Wildlife Department office, where the staff warmly welcomed me with tea and traditional local bread. We had a wonderful conversation about the wildlife found inside the national park. They told me that more than 2,700 Kashmir Markhors live in this protected area and explained how injured or sick animals are safely captured and treated before being released again. I learned many things I had never known before. Unfortunately, despite spending hours in the park, I wasn't lucky enough to spot a Markhor in the wild. Maybe next time! While riding back down, I couldn't stop comparing Chitral Gol National Park to a mini Deosai. The endless green meadows, colorful wildflowers, fresh mountain air, and lush landscape create a magical atmosphere for almost seven months of the year. It also reminded me of the beautiful drive from Muzaffarabad to Pir Chinasi, where rain, clouds, and blooming flowers make every season unforgettable. This place gave me something that every traveler searches for peace. I know one thing for sure: every time I return to Chitral, Birmoghlasht will always be on my itinerary. On the way back, there are several viewpoints overlooking Chitral Airport, offering fantastic photo opportunities. I truly believe that if this airport becomes international in the future, it will make traveling much easier for visitors heading to Chitral, Shandur Pass, Broghal Valley, and even the people of Upper Dir. Finally, I returned to Chitral Bazaar, enjoyed a delicious meal, bought three fresh mangoes for the road, spent some time exploring the local market, and wrapped up another unforgettable day in the beautiful mountains of Chitral. I hope you enjoy this journey as much as I did.
