The Zoo Says Punch Chose. The Door Says Otherwise.

On July 1, 2026, Punch, the hand-raised baby Japanese macaque from Ichikawa City Zoo in Japan, lived his second day without physical contact from Shikano and Miyakoshi during feeding. Some viewers said we got it wrong. They said the only thing that changed is where he eats. That he chooses. That everything is fine. That is not what changed. What changed is not where Punch eats. It is how he eats. And the reason is one word. Contact. In this video we walk through, hour by hour, what actually happened today at Ichikawa. The 12:52 feeding. The 3 PM feeding. The door that closes before Shikano steps out. And the reason it has to close. Shikano and Miyakoshi have not been removed from the zoo. They are still in charge of Monkey Mountain. They are still working with Punch every day. But there is one thing they cannot do anymore. They cannot touch him. Not on their shoulders. Not on their knees. Not inside. Not outside. Nowhere. The zoo has also announced that if another baby macaque is born and the mother cannot care for it, they will not raise the baby by hand as they did with Punch. They will use other methods, defined by their new protocols. Because they believe hand-raising Punch interfered with his integration into the troop. Where we saw a beautiful bond between Punch and his keepers, the zoo saw an integration problem they are now trying to correct. Two readings of the same year. Neither one is a lie.
