Dimanche 5 juillet 26 – Les richesses de Jésus-Christ (Real Gaudreault)

It is common in contemporary Christianity to believe that evangelism consists of becoming convincing enough to draw people spontaneously to the faith. Some imagine that simply adding a few signs and miracles is enough to increase the potential for conversions. Certainly, extraordinary manifestations can impress and attract people to Jesus Christ, but when the initial emotion fades, many simply return to their former lives. True conversion is not measured by the intensity of an event, but by the lasting transformation that follows. It manifests itself when, as with Moses, “the reproach of Christ” suddenly appears as a treasure greater than all the riches of this world. This inner reversal does not arise from a passing emotion, but from a spiritual revelation: Christ becomes precious, desirable, superior to anything life can offer. Authentic conversion is recognized when the heart detaches itself from the illusions of the world to cling to the eternal riches found in Jesus Christ. This is why Paul prayed for the Ephesians, that God might “enlighten the eyes of their hearts,” so that they might discern “what is the hope to which he has called them” and “what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people” (Ephesians 1:18). True evangelism, therefore, does not consist of producing emotions, but of leading souls to that inner illumination where the riches of Christ become visible. Only there is born a lasting faith, a transformed life, and a Christian walk that no longer depends on spectacles, but on the glory of the Lord himself.
