La parabole du semeur, une parabole mal comprise. - Réal Gaudreault, Capsules hors-série
It is frequently used in Sunday sermons to exhort believers not to resemble poor soils such as rocky ground or thorns, but rather to strive to become good soil capable of bearing fruit. However, this moralistic interpretation misses the point. In reality, this parable does not describe human effort, but the failure of the Law Covenant, incapable of producing lasting obedience and the expected spiritual fruits. Above all, it foreshadows what God himself will accomplish in the New Covenant: all those he regenerates through the new birth become, by his sovereign work, good soil that necessarily bears fruit. The parable is therefore not a call to "become" good soil, but a proclamation of what God does with those he calls.
