Great Smoky Mountains, Camping at Elkmont and Hiking Mount LeConte

In the wee hours of the morning on November 1st, fresh off of trick-or-Treating, we set off from Orlando for a fun weekend in Tennessee to get our "fall fix" and to camp at Elkmont Campground and hike the Alum Cave trail to Mount LeConte. This was Amelia's first "mountain summit" and I am so proud of her! 12 miles, over 3,000ft gain and 7 hours of movement, she's just amazing! My favorite part of the hike up was the incredible "winter wonderland" that we encountered and getting to take a peek at the grounds of the LeConte Lodge. Of course the summit at Myrtle Point was the cherry on the cake! I highly recommend camping at Elkmont, we felt like it was pretty central to the hikes we would want to do, and if you want a great site by the river, F5 is the one to pick!
