One day, they achieve a breakthrough and complete a prototype for a new generation of robots. When activated, the robot immediately begins to destroy the scientists' laboratory. Dr. Light believes the problem lies in the computer control system that Dr. Wily had developed and demands that Dr. Wily destroy the plans for future robot prototypes. Enraged, Wily steals the plans and disappears without a trace. Years later, at a robotics convention, Dr. Light, along with his androids Rock and Roll, presents his new generation of robots: Guts Man, designed to assist on construction sites; Cut Man, intended for gardening; and Ice Man, designed to provide cooling in tropical regions. The convention is attacked by Dr. Wily and his robot Proto Man, as Dr. Wily wants to destroy all of Dr. Light's robots. Light wants to reprogram them so they can help him seize world domination, which he ultimately succeeds in doing. To counter the threat posed by Dr. Wily, Rock allows Dr. Light to transform him into Mega Man and begins to rid the world of Dr. Wily and his Robot Masters. Production & Release: ———————————————————— Although Capcom commissioned three pilot episodes for the series in the early 1990s, which were finally released in 2002 under the title Rockman: Hoshi ni Negai wo (ロックマン 星に願いを; English title: "Mega Man/Megaman: Upon a Star"), they opted against an anime style and produced a series in a 1980s retro style. The series was originally aimed at boys, but after noticing that many girls were only watching because of Roll, they were given more prominence during the second season. At the end of the second season, characters from the Mega Man spin-off games were also introduced, such as Mega Man X, Vile, Spark Mandril, and Sigma (spelled Cigma in the show), as the plan was to give these characters a larger role in the third season and, if successful, to launch their own "Mega Man X" animated series. However, the plans for a third season and the spin-off were abandoned because Capcom had problems with their merchandise partner, Bandai, and was unwilling to continue funding the series. There has been no German DVD release to date, although four VHS tapes, each containing two episodes, were released in the 1990s.
