Carrying it Forward: Cultural Pride, Allyship and Youth Leadership | DWF LIVE
Manito Ahbee is an Indigenous-led organization dedicated to celebrating, sharing, and advancing Indigenous cultures and heritage. Through education, community gatherings, and the annual Manito Ahbee Festival, they bring Indigenous and non-Indigenous people together to learn, connect, and celebrate in the spirit of respect, understanding, and reconciliation. This multi-part series introduces powwows as vibrant Indigenous cultural gatherings, covering key protocols, dance styles, regalia, and community traditions while grounded in teachings from the Manito Ahbee Festival. It also highlights the role of youth in carrying culture forward, the history and resurgence of powwows after periods of cultural suppression, and the importance of respectful engagement and allyship.
