DWF LIVE: Dr. Tasha Hubbard – Singing Back the Buffalo

Join us for a special DWF LIVE session featuring Dr. Tasha Hubbard, the director of Singing Back the Buffalo, a powerful documentary that explores buffalo rematriation and the deep relationship between Indigenous Peoples and the buffalo. The film centres Indigenous women’s leadership, ceremony, and song as acts of resurgence, highlighting how singing back to the buffalo is both a cultural practice and a pathway toward healing land, spirit, and community. Dr. Hubbard will join us for a Q&A to share insights from the film, her creative process, and the significance of buffalo restoration as a living expression of Indigenous sovereignty, responsibility, and kinship. This session is designed for grades 9-12 and adults. Dr. Tasha Hubbard is a writer, filmmaker, and professor at the University of Alberta. She has directed multiple documentaries with the National Film Board of Canada and is widely recognized for her work on Indigenous rights, land-based storytelling, and Indigenous futurities.
