C&D Waste and Recycled Glass in Sealed and Unsealed Roads

Australia produces 8.7 Mt of demolition concrete and 1.0 Mt of waste glass each year—and most of it goes to landfill. But what if these waste streams could be turned into recycled materials that improve the performance of our roads? This event showcased a SmartCrete CRC project investigating the feasibility of using C&D waste and recycled glass in sealed and unsealed roads. To discuss, chair Lauren Howe (Arup) was joined by industry partners April Hoyles (Queensland Department of the Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation), Michael Burling (Scenic Rim Regional Council) and researchers Sanjay Nimbalkar and Piyush Punetha (UTS).
