The Arth–Rigi Railway is one of Switzerland’s most iconic mountain railways and is absolutely worth visiting for anyone interested in alpine scenery or railway history. Opened in 1875, it was the world's first standard-gauge rack railway and remains one of the country's most spectacular mountain journeys. Experience the full downhill journey from Rigi Kulm to Arth-Goldau, filmed from the train’s front window in real time and without commentary. Beginning at the summit of Mount Rigi, often known as the "Queen of the Mountains," the train descends through dramatic alpine landscapes with panoramic views of Lake Lucerne, Lake Zug, and the surrounding Swiss Alps. Using the Riggenbach rack system, the railway negotiates steep gradients as it winds its way down the mountainside toward the valley below. As the journey progresses, open snowy mountain meadows gradually give way to forests and villages before the line reaches Arth-Goldau, an important railway junction at the foot of the mountain. The route showcases the remarkable engineering that made Mount Rigi one of the birthplaces of mountain tourism in Switzerland.
