SLOVENIA EUROVISION 2022 - REACTING TO LPS ‘DISKO’ (FIRST LISTEN)

Hi guys, and welcome back to my channel! If you’re new here, my name’s Rachel and I’m a huge Eurovision fan, as well as a musician. In today’s video, I reacted to Slovenia’s entry for Eurovision 2022, for the first time, which is ‘Disko’ by LPS. This song took me by surprise, primarily because of slovenias track record for the past couple of years for playing it safe, bar 2019 where the wonderful ‘Sebi’ made it to the final. ‘DISKO’ is literally what it says on the tin - it’s a disco song, but it’s afraid to explore interesting chords, changes in tempo and really punchy rhythms. The hook of the chorus is good, and to their advantage is memorable, despite the rest of the song being much more complex. The bass line in particular is smooth and blends in really well with the track, a la ‘Chic’ or Nile Rodger’s style. There’s also a nice array of horns, and violins to really give it that extra musical depth and tribute to the origins of the genre. Overall, I really enjoyed this entry and thought it was excellent. Minor improvements could be made to the stage presence and overall colour scheme of the staging, to make it further pop and engage with the audience. But that aside, this is musically very very excellent.
