NEW UK ASYLUM RULES 2026 | REFUGEE LEAVE CUT TO 30 MONTHS | IMMIGRATION LAW UPDATE | GSN IMMIGRATION

🚨 NEW UK ASYLUM RULES 2026 | REFUGEE PROTECTION CUT TO 30 MONTHS | IMMIGRATION UPDATE 🚨 In this video, our IAA-registered Level 3 Adviser, Oliver Westmoreland, explains the latest UK asylum policy changes announced by the Home Office and what they mean for people claiming asylum in the UK. Following a government announcement on 2 March 2026, the UK is introducing a major change to refugee protection rules, moving away from long-term protection towards a temporary protection model. If you are interested in UK asylum law, refugee status, or immigration policy changes, this update is important to understand. 🔹 Key Change: Refugee Leave Reduced to 30 Months Under the new Home Office policy, adults and accompanied children who claim asylum from 2 March 2026 onwards may receive 30 months (2.5 years) of protection if their asylum claim is successful. Previously, individuals granted Refugee Status or Humanitarian Protection were usually given 5 years of leave to remain before becoming eligible to apply for settlement. This change significantly shortens the initial protection period. 🔹 Mandatory Review After 30 Months At the end of the 30-month period, the Home Office will review the refugee’s circumstances: • If the person still faces danger in their home country, their protection may be extended.• If the country of origin is now considered safe, the individual may be expected to return home. This means refugee protection in the UK will become temporary and regularly reassessed. 🔹 To whom the Changes Apply To According to the government announcement: ✔ Applies to adult asylum seekers and accompanied children who claim asylum on or after 2 March 2026.✔ Unaccompanied children will still receive 5 years’ protection under the current policy. Further details are expected through the new Immigration Rules updates. 🔹 What This Means for Refugees in the UK These reforms represent one of the most significant changes to the UK asylum system in recent years, with the government aiming to: • Reduce incentives for irregular migration• Increase reviews of protection status• Encourage alternative routes such as work or study visas for those able to contribute to the UK economy. For many refugees, however, the changes may mean greater uncertainty and a longer pathway to permanent settlement. 📌 Subscribe to our channel for more updates on UK immigration law, asylum policy, and the latest legal developments affecting migrants and refugees. 📢 Subscribe for More: If you found this video helpful, don't forget to like 👍🏻 subscribe✅ and 🔔 hit the notification bell for more updates on visa requirements and other immigration-related content. 🔔 About GSN Immigration: At GSN Immigration, we are committed to providing top-tier immigration advice and services.
