Silkworms are caterpillars, insect larvae, highly prized for their ability to produce silk. When they hatch, they measure one millimeter in length, and through repeated eating, they will grow to 10 centimeters. After metamorphosis, the silkworm moths have a few days to mate and lay eggs, thus restarting their life cycle.
