Last Thursday, the Montevideo Departmental Board approved the request for extra-budgetary funds submitted by Mario Bergara's administration, specifically those earmarked for cleaning and sanitation. Approval of these extra funds required a special majority of 21 out of 31 council members, which meant that four members of the opposition voted in favor of the initiative. The $40.7 million loan for the revitalization of the Old City was not approved, as it did not receive opposition support.
