Restoring gullies, protecting the Reef

Gully erosion across northern Queensland can strip valuable soil and send sediment downstream to the Great Barrier Reef. This video showcases restoration work taking place at the Department of Primary Industries (DPI) Spyglass Beef Research Station, where a project is trialling practical methods to stabilise eroded gullies, improve soil condition and re-establish vegetation. Early results are promising, with significant reductions in sediment loss. Learn how collaboration between graziers, researchers and industry is helping protect productive land, waterways and the Reef for the long term. This project was only possible through the support and collaboration of project partners, contractors, technical advisors, suppliers, field staff, researchers and land managers. Thank you to everyone who contributed their time, knowledge and feedback to the Spyglass Gully Remediation Project. This project was funded through the Queensland Government’s Queensland Reef Water Quality program.
