Gooty WDG4G Twins hauled Surathkal bound Ro-Ro Freight passing through Monsoon Kumta

A Golden Spotting of this Monsoon season - Seen here is Surathkal bound Ro-Ro Freight codenamed 'Gaurav' departing Kumta & passing towards South powered by GE/Wabtec WDG4G Twins homed at Gooty DLS. This Ro-Ro Freight had Bit Longer wait at Kumta Station as it was Overtaken by 12432 Hazrat Nizamuddin - Thiruvananthapuram Central Rajdhani Express & also had Crossing with 20646 Mangaluru Central - Madgaon Vande Bharat Express. A total of 50 Trucks are moved from Kolad in Maharashtra to Surathkal, Karnataka carrying different types of commodity including Steel Coils, Granite/Marbles, Tanker etc. A Second WDG4G Loco #49447 carries - '75th Azadi ka Amrit mahotsav' Slogan on Sidewalls of the Loco. About Ro-Ro Service - Ro-Ro (Roll On - Roll Off) is a unique service operated by Konkan Railway in which trucks are loaded on Flat wagons modified to carry trucks & Rollover during Loading/Unloading Operations. The service helps truckers to avoid busy National Highway 66, helps in less wear & tear of trucks, roads, Comfortable journey & less pollution. Also faster delivery time compared to road. Konkan Railway first started this service in 1999 to earn better revenue. Initially BRNA wagons were used, later BOXN wagons were also inducted for carrying more Trucks. Trucks are transported from Kolad in Maharashtra to Surathkal in Karnataka & vice-versa.
