Today, under a clear blue sky for the first time in a while, I enjoyed a leisurely time of fly fishing in a single rapid. I usually focus on lure fishing, but this time I decided to try something different and attempted live bait fishing. For the rig, I used a rare close-contact chirashi rig with only about 5mm of space between the upper and lower hooks. This reduced the burden on the bait fish, and I was able to enjoy the interplay with the ayu throughout the day, watching it swim naturally. The catch was 16 fish, which wasn't a huge haul, but more importantly, I rediscovered the depth of live bait fishing and the charm of close-contact chirashi rigs, which was a great reward.
