194- Hô Chi Minh Ville Vietnam | Saïgon District 4 + Xom Chieu Market
In this vlog, we'll explore District 4 in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, also known as Saigon. We'll visit the immense Xom Chieu Market. DISTRICT 4: This district is triangular in shape and surrounded by water. It used to be nicknamed the gangster district. As you can imagine, it didn't have a good reputation due to its population, which was made up of gangs, prostitutes, and mafia members. But today, it's become a quiet neighborhood with few tourists. And indeed, I didn't encounter any. It's actually surprising, because it's very pleasant to walk there. To get there, I recommend taking the Cau Calmette Bridge on Duong Calmette Street. It's a busy thoroughfare for cars, but there's a small pedestrian walkway on the side with a beautiful view of the buildings on the river (it's very noisy). The view is superb, 360 degrees, with views of the buildings and the river. If you're not comfortable walking along this four-lane road, you can take the Mong Bridge, a green metal bridge not far away that's accessed by stairs, but the views are less photogenic. XOM CHIEU MARKET: If you're visiting this area early in the morning, I recommend going directly to Xom Chieu Market. There's a lot of activity all around, with all the vendors, some of whom have megaphones to attract customers. (We discovered this system in Cairo) The interior is superb, it's actually the most beautiful market in the city (I visited three). Then, wander off and let yourself get lost in the streets, such as "Doan Van Bo Street" (which starts from the bridge and is known as the longest market in the city, at about 2 kilometers long). "Nguyen Than Hien Street" is also very good. There are a lot of street vendors (a kind of market) on "Hem 200C Xom Chieu" Street, which starts from the "Xom Chieu" Church. You'll find a lot of shops and restaurants on "Ton Dan Street," which is a little bigger. Don't hesitate to go to the small streets on the left (when you have the church behind you). There are also a lot of streets to explore around Vinh Hoi Street I highly recommend visiting this neighborhood, which is surprisingly rarely visited by tourists; in fact, I didn't encounter any.
