El Faro | Entrevista a Martirio | 19/11/2019

Singer Martirio visits #ElFaroCopla under the pseudonym ‘Misterio’ (Mystery), a reality she herself describes as a constant in her life. She chatted with Mara Torres in the early hours of the morning on Cadena SER about her childhood home, filled with sensitivity thanks to her parents, and about her professional career. Copla has always been present in her life, and she has passed this on to her son Raúl, with whom she feels a connection and with whom she has collaborated musically since 1999. When she created her character, Martirio, in the 1980s, she gave dignity to the women of Spain, to many housewives who had never sung about being tired or who didn't want to play the role society expected of them. "Find your own little corner, develop your creativity, and you'll have to take a lot fewer pills," the singer explained. Known worldwide for her hair combs, she told us that she feels like they're her antennae, and how she created the first one she wore with Kiko Veneno's wife, of whom she was a huge fan. He asked her to lend her voice to some songs, "using a Columbus barrel, silver paper, and Bauhaus motifs," the singer explained. Her new work, 'A bola de nieve' (Snowball), seeks to pay homage to "a unique voice, comparable only to Chavela Vargas, that stirred all emotions," and which, according to Martirio, is meant to be listened to "calmly amidst the hustle and bustle of our modern lives."
