DJ Geeneus with MC Plague & MC Lady ST | Old Skool Jungle Set | Rinse FM 91.8 | Sat 7th Dec 1996
Artwork by Take Me Back Pirate Radio Archives. Recorded on London's premiere pirate Rinse FM 97.6 in 1996. Some people are familiar with both 91.8 FM and the 100.3 FM dials with respect to Rinse FM. This show was when Jungle music was in its prime. The amount of Jungle track releases in 1996 was incredible. DJ Geeneus plays one of Rinse FM's anthems from that Jungle era which was DJ Trend's, "Tune Your Bass" at 7:33 which was later released on Fury Recordings 1997, under Trend's alias Macko. "Tune Your Bass" and "Fade Away" were practically played by all the DJs on Rinse FM during 1996 and 1997. Either Trend had cut it on dub plate and got everyone to play it on the station or he had all the DJs cut it, either way he was teenage DJ and producer sensation. This is an early recording of MC Plague, who later formed the Pay As You Go Cartel with DJ Slimzee and DJ Geeneus. It was refreshing at that time to hear quality female MCs who could compete with a male dominated scene. In her day, Lady ST was a phenomenal and highly respected MC. She inspired many young people in London, particularly in the east-end. Rinse FM was showcasing its talent and many heads were turning. People were taking note. It's interesting to compare MC Plague from the past with that of MC Plague from Pay As You Go Crew. Take part in our poll on what genre you preferred MC Plague MCing? Did you prefer him on Jungle/DNB, or, UK Garage? Take part and give us your opinion. Check out our Rinse FM Jungle/DNB playlist: • Jungle Classics 1997 | The Underdogs (DJ W...
