DJ Geeneus with MCs Paco & Blade & Demon | Rinse FM 91.8 | Jungle Classics 1996
Artwork by Take Me Back Pirate Radio Archives. The London pirate radio station Rinse FM began transmitting in 1994 up and until 1996 on 97.6 then moved dial to 91.8FM in 1996 until late 97. They were taken off air and decided to join forces with some of the former Pressure FM crew setting up on the old 100.4FM, then shifting the dial to 100.3FM and restyling it as Rinse FM. Rinse FM was home to some of the most talented DJs, MCs, artists and producers in London and the UK. The majority of its performers were from east London although it did have pockets of talents from all corners of the city. Rinse FM's talent was being recognised by the likes of the east London rival Kool FM 94.5, who poached Nicky Slim Ting, Maxwell D and the legendary DJ Trend (RIP), who was the producer of the Rinse FM anthem "Ohh Bass", "Anthem" and "2 Degrees" which captivated the ravers from the moment they heard them drop in the raves and on pirate radio. Shouts out to the original 97.6 and 91.8 Rinse FM massive so many names to mention: DJ Geeneus, DJ Target, DJ Trend (RIP), DJ Roy B, DJ Suss 1, DJ Woody G, DJ Slim Fast (DJ Slimzee), DJ Nicky Slim Ting, DJ Diesle (D Power), DJ Sharkey (aka DJ A Plus), DJ Stingray, DJ Majestic, DJ Cutter, DJ Admiral, DJ Fury, DJ Unique, MC Wiley, MC Riko Dan, MC Breeze, MC Ace (Major Ace (RIP)), MC Pepsi (GodsGift MC), MC Riddles, Stamina MC, MC Plague, MC Maxwell D (Maxwell Ranger), MC Trouble, MC Paco, MC Breakfast Man, MC Carbon, MC Major Skits, MC BK, MC Caspit, MC Mystery Major, MC Fenton, MC Blade, MC Stinga Bee, MC Lady ST, MC Lady Sweetie, MC Lady Dyer, MC Beanie, MC DUB, MC Mega Mouth, MC Mega (Sun City), MC Ranking, and loads more. Big up the 100.3FM Drum & Bass crew: DJ Rips, DJ Bounty Hunter, DJ Flight, DJ Juice, DJ Opium, DJ Geeneus, DJ Double M, DJ Wacko, DJ Karnage (Roll Deep), Reckless Crew: Terror Danjah, DJ Interlude, MC Lethal (Triple Threat), D Double E (MC Dee), DJ Scratcha "Dub Plate" Dan (Scratcha DVA), Bruza (MC Chigga D), MC Mayhem Double Trubla and MC Skanker. In 1996 London's FM dial was crammed with Jungle pirate radio stations with the likes of Kool FM, Rude FM, Eruption FM, Rinse FM, Rude FM, Pressure FM, Transmission 1 FM, Freedom FM, Dream FM, Conflict FM, Don FM, Kik FM, Flex FM, Zone FM, and many others. We saw London and the UK's club scene along with its venues thrive off of the promotion of Jungle events like: Kool Skool '96 @The Powerhouse (Stratford), Club Kool @Lazerdrome, One Nation @Aztec Lounge (formerly Club UN, Tottenham), Desire @Island Music Arena, World Dance @Lydd International Airport, Telepathy @Adrelin Village (Chelsea Bridge, Battersea), Heat 1996 @Hastings Pier, Designer Label Ball @Club UN, Warning 1996 Giants Of Jungle 1 @The Junction (Cliffton Rd, Cambridge), Sunday Roast every Fortnight @SW1 Club. 1996 was a formidable year for Jungle productions where we saw the proliferation of Jungle record labels, producers, record shops, raves and pirate radio stations.
