Young Ringers' Week in Bournemouth: Day 3

Some footage from the third day of the Young Ringers' (and Friends!) tour to the Bournemouth area. Towers visited on Day Three were Bournemouth (St John, Sacred Heart, St Peter,) and Winchester Cathedral. A beach morning was rained off so we had a chilled morning at the Scout hut where we were staying. What else to do but grab the sanky and ring handbells! :-) Post lunch, the first tower was St John in Bournemouth, a lovely Taylor ring of 1906 vintage, except the tenor which dates from 1898. Go well and sound super, albeit a bit quiet inside; ringing showcased here is Grandsire Triples (outside) and Grandsire Major (inside). Sacred Heart: A light Taylor 6 of 1983 (with a tenor of 1958), and a 9cwt bourdon cast in 1875 by Mears & Stainbank, the only bell in Bournemouth by this founder! Ringing featured here consists of Grandsire and Stedman Doubles, Cambridge Minor, an attempt at the Westminster chimes with Mr Vant, and a Bourdon Grab! St Peter contains a fine 8, cast in 1937 by Taylor's again. Not the easiest to ring due to tower wobble but well worth it for the noise, they sound especially good outside! Plain and Little Bob Major inside, and a lower outside. Winchester Cathedral: We were fortunate to join the Alton and Petersfield District for their annual practice at the Cathedral and were made very welcome, giving us the opportunity to ring on one of only two rings of 14 in the world! A couple of extracts from a bob course of Grandsire Sextuples here, the highlight of the evening :-) Day Four will follow soon! Thanks for watching :-)
