The Homeschool Conversation Nobody Wants To Have

Homeschooling gives families incredible freedom — but freedom also comes with responsibility. After nearly 10 years of homeschooling, I think one of the hardest conversations we need to have is this: A child can be deeply loved, cared for, and supported… and still not be receiving the education they deserve. This is not a conversation about perfect homeschooling. It is not about judging families who choose different paths. It is about honestly asking ourselves whether our homeschool is serving our learners. In this video, I share my thoughts on educational neglect, homeschool accountability, evaluating progress, avoiding blind spots, and why changing course is sometimes the most loving thing we can do. As a secular homeschooling family, I believe homeschooling can be an incredible educational path — one that allows curiosity, creativity, and deep learning. But it also requires us to show up, pay attention, and make sure our children are moving forward.
