Pere Marquette 1225 - North Pole Express 2023

Back at it again in rural Michigan for the Polar Expre- I mean legally distinct North Pole Express. Pere Marquette 1225 is back in action after being down for repairs last Christmas, so it was good to see it steaming on the old Ann Arbor mainline once again. 1225 was sporting new wheels and a new (and very bright) dual beam headlight. I was there on December 17th, so this was the last day for the event. I first see the train at the Main Street crossing where the popular Robbins Furniture shot is. I was too late given the photo line for the shot was filled, but I made do on the other side of the street. I then went to King Road which is one of the few curve shots on the route, and lastly Roosevelt Road which has a slight curve and small trestle over a ditch making for some neat shot opportunities. I wasn't able to see it arrive in Ashley but I got them backing up after they unloaded passengers. I focused on stationary shots in Ashley until Santa Claus showed up. Finally I saw the train heading back to Owosso with PNLX 57 leading it through Bannister. Next year I'll have to catch the train arriving into Owosso since I haven't done that yet. I almost didn't make the trip to Owosso given I was still recovering from a cold and the weather wasn't looking great with rain throughout the day. Despite that, I managed to have a good time.
