All Aboard The South Shore! New Monon Corridor Commuter Trains!

The conventional wisdom says that once a railroad corridor loses its tracks, it's gone, and gone forever. In this installment of Bituminous Kole, I'm delighted to provide you an exception to this rule: The South Shore's Monon Corridor. CSX removed former Monon tracks between Hammond and Munster in the mid-90s. The Monon Trail was installed. And then, the Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District built new ones- right alongside the trail. It's as if this railbanking thing is real! Naturally, I had to ride! Twice, even! It's a fast ride on clean trains, stopping at clean stations, with rail action visible at several points.
