Glacier Crest Trail | Glacier National Park, BC

Distance (out & back): 12.6 km • Elevation gain (total): 996 m After much indecision due to smoke and heavy rain, we decided to continue on with our plan to hike the Glacier Crest Trail. Nichole did this one on a clear day the week before while Steve was recovering from Covid. 😆 The trail is well maintained and easy to follow. It also makes for an excellent workout, starting you off with an easy warm up which gradually picks up in intensity. There is a long stretch of switchbacks in the tree line, but you can start seeing some views about a third of the way in. The views open up as soon as you get to the boulder area, and from there it only gets better. On a clear day (sunny and not smoky) the colours are incredibly vivid, yet doing the hike even on a rainy/gloomy/smoky day was completely worth it. While this trail is 3 km shorter than Abbott Ridge and 400m lower than Mount Abbott - which you can see distinctively from across the valley - the 360 degree views it offers are equally breathtaking.
