Ep. 105 GROUTING THE LEMON QUEEN MOSAIC, The Art Place Mosaic & Millie's Face.
Ep. 105 GROUTING THE LEMON QUEEN MOSAIC, The Art Place Mosaic & Millie's Face. Starting with Millie's tongue, I break it down into a couple different shades of pink and start piecing the mosaic. Once the tongue is finished, I can pack the pink glass away! Then I move to the fur around her muzzle and her head. It's all about nipping to get the shape I want. Next I add the highlights in the black fur, which will give the head definition and volume. Then there is a lighter part on the highlighted fur that I add to distinguish between the muzzle and the forehead. She's off to a good start! BONUS: I take a short break to find inspiration out in my garden. EXTRA BONUS: ATL Glassworks unwrapping! Lots of blues and some Armstrong Graffitti glass, which is no longer made. Plus a brief look at a cube storage system I assembled myself. Then we head to The Art Place to work on the commemorative community mosaic. There are several letters to finish - T, H, E and C. Then the blue around Art and of course all that white background! We manage to finish the blue and all the letters! I think we can finish the rest in one more volunteer session with 4-5 volunteers! So hard to capture mirror mosaic! Finally I start grouting with yellow and orange Colorant pigments added to white sanded grout. Using the NO TAPE method, I carefully spread the grout and clean up by moving away from the center to keep the beads grout free! After the orange and yellow are mostly clean, I add black sanded grout to the dark shadows on the petals and on the leaf shadows. Last, I add gray and spread it quickly over the bulk of the back ground and then carefully between the petals. Then an update on the geometric mosaic. I end the week by pulling out a few pieces on Millie that have been NOT WORKING for me! I use a spritz of water and let it sit for about 5 minutes. Then it easily comes loose and I can remove it. I accidentally loosen a good piece, but not to worry, I can glue it back in place. It is very important to have adequate eye protection when you are prying out pieces as they can really fly! I cut and nip a few new pieces to replace the others and cut them in half to look more like fur. That's it!
