Trigger warning: This post deals with sexual violence. A safe journey home – that's the hope when you get into a taxi, Uber, or Bolt after going out at night. But this supposed safety turns out to be deceptive for many women. Research by Impact shows: For many victims, the journey home in ride-hailing services is the most unsafe part of the journey. A confined space, a stranger, and perhaps under the influence of alcohol or fatigue – a highly vulnerable situation. In March 2025, a taxi driver in Dielsdorf was convicted. The charge: sexually assaulting his female passenger. This is not an isolated incident: Amila has spoken to over 15 affected women in Switzerland. They describe harassment, assaults, and situations of fear that occurred during rides. How can victims protect themselves? And what are Uber, Bolt, Taxi, and others doing to combat these assaults?
