Cycling Germany Alps Achensee Riegsee 09 09 2020

Because I am ahead of my schedule, I plan to do a block around the Karwendel. It's 9 o'clock when I leave. The fog is still low over the Achersee. The first part I follow the cycle path along the Achersee. Slowly the patches of fog disappear and the sun appears. Quite a lot of cyclists who cycle around here. Then I follow route 29 to Germany. The start is easy to do with fine gravel, but at some point it becomes an MTB path. I have to push the bike through the gravel. Then just the normal road that is not busy either. At a Talsperre I cross the Munich-Venice cycle route with many cyclists. Here I also deviate from my original route and head towards Garmisch-Partenkirchen. After the Talperre there is a long stretch up and down. There is little difference in height today and mainly downhill. At a Mautstrasse at the exit to Echt it gets really beautiful and I cycle along the Karwendel. The rugged peaks are not high, but they are impressive. Perhaps the most beautiful part of the journey. The road follows the river valley so it does not go up steeply. I soon arrive in Garmisch-Partenkirchen and now turn north. I follow the bicycle signs, because the roads are not on the open bicycle map. The cycle path follows the Loisach and is great for cycling. You have a view of the mountain range of the Zugspitze, the highest mountain in Germany, all the way. The weather is also beautiful with a blue sky. Finally I cycle to Murnau am Staffelsee. At the Riegsee I find a great campsite for 11 euros. Separate terraces for the tents on the water. The rest of the site is packed but there is still room here. You have a beautiful view of the mountains. Total again 100 km.
