How to Present the Constructive Triangles Large Hexagonal Box | Montessori Sensorial Lesson AMI
Constructive Triangles - Large Hexagonal Box Material: A large hexagonal box 2 red obtuse-angled isosceles triangles with a black line on the side opposite the obtuse angle 2 gray obtuse-angled isosceles triangles with a black line on one of the sides enclosing the obtuse angle 6 yellow obtuse-angled isosceles triangles: 3 with a black line on the opposite side of the obtuse angle and 3 with black lines on both equal sides 1 yellow equilateral triangle which sides equal the longest side of the other triangles, these have a black line on all 3 sides A rug or large table Presentation: Invite a child Introduce the activity Have the child set up the floor mat Have the child carry the box to the floor mat and sit-down Open the box and Take all the triangles and place them around the box Close the box and place it on the right corner Isolate the red triangle, Look for the matching one, take the other red triangle. Join them together on the black lines Place it on top left corner Take one grey triangle, look for the matching one Take the other grey one and join them together on the black lines Put it next to the red ones Take one yellow triangle, look for the matching one and join them together Take the large yellow triangle, look for the other triangles that matched the sides of the large one to make hexagon Pause Flip the smaller triangles and put on top of the large triangle, say: “See” . Pause and observe. Ask if the equilateral triangle (form by 3 yellow triangles) fit in the middle of the hexagon. Arrange them back into Hexagon. Separate the hexagon into three rhombus Compare the red rhumbas to the yellow one and super impose Put the red rhombus on top of the yellow one Compare the grey one to the yellow rhombus Put the grey ones on top of the yellow rhombus Put all the shapes on its original positions Pause Mix the triangles Invite the child to do the activity When he has done, show him to put away Mix the triangles Open the box Put the activity in the box: First: the hexagon, put at the bottom of the box, Second: the yellow ones, Third: They grey ones (on two sides space), Fourth: The red ones (on top of another) Control of Error: The black lines Direct Purpose To show the child what figures can be constructed by Isosceles obtuse angle triangle which is one-third of an equilateral triangles Indirect Purpose: Preparation for geometry Age: 4 to 5
