MIOMAS: Síntomas, diagnóstico y tratamiento de los miomas - Ginecología y Obstetricia
Uterine fibroids are very common benign tumors that appear primarily between the ages of 40 and 50. Dr. Melgar does not explain the symptoms and possible treatments. Uterine fibroids, also known as leiomyomas or fibroids, are the most common solid tumors in the female pelvis. In fact, it is estimated that 70% of women develop fibroids throughout their lives. The risk of developing fibroids increases with age, during the reproductive years, with their highest incidence occurring in the fifth decade of life. Myoma is a benign tumor that arises from the myometrium. Furthermore, estrogen and progesterone are related to its development and growth. Most fibroids are asymptomatic, only causing symptoms in 25% of women of childbearing age. Treatment for fibroids will depend largely on the patient's symptoms and whether she wishes to become pregnant or has fulfilled her desire to conceive. Women with one or more asymptomatic fibroids do not require treatment unless the fibroid is making it difficult for them to conceive or causing repeated miscarriages. We will therefore discuss the classification of fibroids, predisposing factors, symptoms, clinical and imaging diagnosis, possible treatments, and the need for follow-up.
