Film capacitors vary significantly in their parameters, but the most popular are polyester and polypropylene. These are the most common types found in modern technology. Polyester film capacitors make up the majority of them. In this video, I showed how a film capacitor is constructed, what the plate consists of, and what the insulator consists of. I also disassembled several capacitors. The first was a metallized polypropylene capacitor, type MPP, which is used to suppress interference in the power supply. It also has the Y2 marking. The capacitor had already been used, so there were signs of breakdown on the plates. This is a special self-healing capacitor that recovers by evaporating part of the metallization of the plate. The plate itself is a polypropylene film coated with a layer of metal, in this case, aluminum. I clearly showed what a breakdown of the capacitor plates looks like. I also disassembled the CBB22 capacitor—it is also a polypropylene film capacitor. I also disassembled the CL21—this is a polyester film capacitor. Or a lavsan capacitor—are polyester and lavsan the same thing? I showed the difference between CL21 and CBB22, and explained how to tell them apart if they're not marked. I also disassembled several green film capacitors. These are the ones that look like green pads. They're used everywhere, but they also come in other colors, like brown. I've even seen red ones. I showed how they work. I also showed the main difference between lavsan and polyester capacitors. I explained which capacitors have parasitic inductance and which don't, and why. I talked about the ESR of film capacitors. I explained and compared the thermal conductivity of the most popular types of film capacitors—MPP, also known as CBB22, and CL21, which is polyester. I also showed the advantages and disadvantages of film capacitors.
