Ys IV: Dawn of Ys (Hudson, 1993, PCE) playthrough [translated]

This week we are (finally) playing Ys IV: Dawn of Ys fully translated, text, cutscenes, everything! Disclaimer: only the cutscenes are translated by me, and I went about them in a more of a to-the-point / lazy style so as to get it done in time. It should be good enough. My thoughts: Well, it is an Ys game. Gameplay-wise it is very similar to the SNES version, nothing that different. Visually and musically, though, it is worlds apart. It looks much more beautiful and detailed (thank you PCE) and sounds better too, with a superior soundtrack, and actual voice acting. And not just the kind of cringy voice acting we got in the west in the 90s, but actual, serious, quality voice acting. And that voice acting comes with some nicely detailed and beautiful sprites of the characters. And best yet, we even have fully animated cutscenes that look like they were taken straight from an anime (or traced into pixel art). The story I feel also moves along more fluently, with how everything connects, but at its core the story is mostly identical. A clan of darkness seeking the power of the Mask of the Sun for their nefarious goals, connecting to the histories of Selceta and Esteria… Overall, this is definitely the superior version of Ys IV compared to the SNES version. And together they practically make me forget all about Ys III (which is best forgotten in my opinion). I'd give it a 9/10 on the RPG spectrum.
